Sorry about the lack of updates but there’s been a fair bit of upheaval about the place recently and I’ve been concentrating on other things.

First and foremost normal service has resumed on TYTand there is LOTS planned over the course of this season. I had hoped to have a large number of things completed before the season began but a few timing changes robbed me of the chance so now we’ll just have to roll out the goodies during the season as they are done.

So for all you impatient types…. a sneak preview

Click the image to embiggen…

Things are humming along a great deal quicker than I expected and part of that is the tools I using. I have a post lined up regarding that that I’ll hopefully be able to get done soon.

There’s probably lots more but I’m on something of a roll so it’s back to the coding for me.

A few months ago I was really quite happy and looking forward to where things were headed and now.. well lets just say I’m not.

I found out something today that makes me less than happy.

To be honest I’m sick of depending on other people. In the long term this may be a good thing and might push me into doing what I probably should be doing but in the short term it’s likely to hurt quite a bit.

Over time I’m sure more details will leak out and there’s still a very slight possibility that things might not be as bad as they seem, but I’m a realist so as they say plan for the worst and hope for the best.

And so the planning begins.

On the upside, if you can call it that, you might actually hear from me more in the future.

My personal belief is that most of these charges are bullshit (and I’ve paid the ones that aren’t). This is the reason the sites are currently down whilst I argue with the hosting provider over who’s in the right.

If it were during the season I’d pay the money and move on but fuck ‘em.

I’ve come up with some interim plans, some of which were going to happen ANYWAY this is has just moved them up in the timetable.

I hope to have at least part of this resolved in the next few days to enable the site to go back up but with the lackluster response from the other side that may or may not happen.

I’ll update here as soon as I have some more info.

So what’s this all about?

Well it started out as a bit of a gimmick whilst I was sitting bored on the train heading into work. I was sitting there thinking about some recent changes in my life and started thinking about what exactly made up my life as it is now.

As I sat there ticking things off in my head I came to the realisation that the first half dozen things at least that I’d thought of started with the letter T. This was without any conscious forethought or planning they just came out that way.

It was cause for a chuckle, especially as that happens to be the letter my surname begins with.

Chuckling away to myself on the train probably looking like a complete idiot to everyone else I thought laughingly I should blog about that. Which as it usually does got me to thinking about blogging in general and my very hit and miss past with it.

However the more I thought about it the more I realised that this was a little different. Never before had I thought about blogging as me. It was always blogging for some particular audience about some particular topic, not about the sometimes truly bizzare mishmash of things that interest me and take up my time in this world.

All these things are me, they are the things that I love, they are the things that I spend my time doing and sometimes they are even the things that I spend my time thinking about.

But most of all, they are me to a T.

The other day I was downloading some shows to watch and as I had plenty of space in this months download cap I decided to grab a few complete series.

I’m usually pretty good about things like this, but I must have been half asleep or something cause it wasn’t until I’d downloaded all 8Gb or whatever it was that I realised that the file was in .daa format.

I fucking hate formats like this. it’s another format almost entirely for the sake of having another format just to call your own. Seems to be the epitome of NIH syndrome.

I already have perfectly usable tools to handle my zips, my isos and any other format you generally get when torrenting. And most of them are fairly open and can be managed with whatever tool you happen to prefer.

Formats like daa (and uif the other big offender) aren’t/don’t/won’t/can’t/shouldn’t/haven’t/will never and a thousand and one other negatively charged synonyms. To use them even just to “simply” extract them you need THEIR program and THEIR program alone.

Correction, you USED to.

A most fabulous individual by the name of Luigi Auriemma have come to the rescue of us all and provided two simple but beautiful little tools to do EXACTLY what most of us want to do with these files, get them into a format we can burn/mount/open as quickly and simply as possible.

His nifty little programs daa2iso and uif2iso live at Luigi’s MyToolz page.

So death t PowerISO and MagicISO and long live King Luigi!!!
